Uning the skills and accomplishments of your team is crucial for attracting clients, employers, and investors; yet some fear that boasting about them may come off as arrogant or boastful.
To avoid this situation, it's essential that your accomplishments are presented in a way that appeals to potential employers. Here are some tips for demonstrating your team's excellence without bragging.
1. Create an Online Portfolio
Establishing an online portfolio is one of the best ways to demonstrate your accomplishments and skills. From landing a dream job or impressing clients, digital portfolios will set you apart from competitors.
Online portfolios are especially beneficial to creative professionals such as artists, engineers, computer scientists, photographers and designers. They allow you to showcase your work visually while complementing the information contained within your resume and cover letter.
As part of your portfolio design, be sure to include context by outlining the problem you were trying to address (Problem), what actions were taken (Action), and the results achieved (Results). This will allow your audience to fully appreciate what has been accomplished.
2. List Accomplishments in Your Resume
An effective resume accomplishments section can have an immense impact on how hiring managers perceive your skills and value. While avoiding confidential details like sales figures or annual revenue figures, highlight measurable accomplishments that demonstrate your ability to meet or surpass goals and objectives from previous roles.
Use SMART keywords when outlining your accomplishments (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely). Numbers, percentages and statistics will bring each success alive for hiring managers.
An example would be: "Reduced employee churn by 42%". Metrics help make your achievements more tangible and impactful for hiring managers.
3. Share Your Accomplishments on Social Media
Social media can be an excellent platform to showcase the talents of your team and boost brand recognition; but, when sharing such experiences online, be mindful.
One LinkedIn user recently noted their difficulty in posting about their accomplishments as it can come across as boastful and may intimidate future employers if applied for.
Consider sharing milestones through photos, videos, articles or contests on social media to bring awareness of them and garner participation from your followers.
4. Invest in Your Team’s Continuous Learning and Development
An eager team that seeks out learning opportunities will produce more productive work. Continuous learning may take place either formally, through professional development plans, or more casually through trainings to address skill gaps on individual projects.
Engaging your team in ongoing learning activities is key to improving morale and encouraging empowerment within their roles. When they see how their peers advance within the company, it creates a sense of achievement which in turn can result in improved performance from everyone.
Make sure that your team has access to the tools needed to put their newfound knowledge into action on their work, such as providing opportunities to cross-train with other departments or rewarding their ability to learn and implement new skills through raises or promotions based on these criteria.
5. Share Your Accomplishments on Your Company’s Website
Many awards include badges or icons you can display on your website to display all of your achievements in one convenient place and demonstrate why people can trust your business.
Other than drawing attention to your team's skills, showcasing achievements can also build company culture and motivate employees - this can be particularly important in smaller firms that cannot afford top talent for every role.
Share quotes from third-party sources about your award to add credibility and increase its effectiveness. Celebrate it together as a team at an all hands meeting to commemorate it properly!
6. Create Micro-Content on Social Media
Micro content can be an engaging way of conveying your accomplishments and skills in a short format, driving more traffic to both your website and social media channels.
Keep in mind that attention spans have decreased significantly, making easily digestible information more likely to resonate with your audience. But this does not imply that micro-content should take the place of more substantive blog posts or videos.
As you create micro-content, be sure to monitor its engagement and reach. This will allow you to assess its efficacy compared with industry benchmarks and how well your micro-content performs within that environment.
7. Share Your Accomplishments on Your Company’s Blog
One of the best ways to showcase your achievements is on your company blog, as this will promote your skills & demonstrate how they can solve problems.
Motivate your colleagues with an effective report. Provide a detailed brief that helps them to showcase their accomplishments in a manner that adds real value.
My friend gets together every few weeks with friends to update their "brag document". It's an effective way of keeping track of things you should feel proud to highlight, while providing a more complete overview of everything they have accomplished in life and work.
8. Share Your Accomplishments on LinkedIn
LinkedIn can serve as more than an online CV; it's also a platform for content-sharing, so take advantage of it by publishing articles that emphasize your achievements and expertise.
Include any projects or awards from which you derived in your profile, summary and all work history sections. Attempt to quantify them wherever possible--how many people were trained or helped, how much time or money did you save your employer, etc.?
Third-party validation is key. Seek written recommendations from coworkers or supervisors who can vouch for your competence to lend credibility to your claims and showcase your accomplishments even more remarkably. Don't forget posting these accolades to the LinkedIn Network Updates feed for display on its homepage as well.
